Astraios SonataSkins™

Astraios SonataSkins™

Turn your piano into the piece everyone talks about. SonataSkins™ aim to offer a visually appealing and durable solution for customizing piano keys with striking artwork, a comfortable matte surface for play and performance, and a custom fit. You'll get that “Wow, I’ve never seen anything like this” moment every time someone walks by.

Before You Measure

SonataSkins™ are made-to-order and cut to your exact specs. Measuring takes about 5–10 minutes, and this guide walks you through every step so checkout is smooth. We’ve spent hundreds of hours refining the process.

What you’ll need: a digital caliper (budget options start around ~$13), a tape measure in inches (used only for the total keys length), and a small ruler for one hard-to-reach spot.

Why there isn’t a model dropdown: there are 3,000+ piano-like instruments out there with slightly different specs. That variability makes a universal list unreliable—so we build your set from your measurements.

Let’s get started:

  1. Select White Key Count (below) to choose the right product size. You’ll use this number again in the guide, so keep it handy.
  2. Select Quantity.
  3. Follow the SonataSkins™ Measurement Guide before checkout. Live math checks your entries, helpful tooltips explain each step, and we handle the background formulas.

Behind the scenes: Each order gets 2–3 hours of setup to ensure accuracy. We’ll send a proof—faster feedback = faster delivery.

We’ll save your measurements so you can reorder with the same specs whenever you switch themes.

Happy measuring—we hope you love your SonataSkins™ as much as we do. Thanks for being part of our launch!

SonataSkins™ Measuring Guide

  • Measuring takes 5–10 minutes. Use a digital caliper.
  • Enter all dimensions in millimeters with decimals (e.g., 21.45 mm).
  • Use inches only for the total keys length (e.g., 33-3/8″ = 33.375 in).
  • Live math checks ensure ease and accuracy.

Getting started

Select the total number of white keys on your piano or keyboard (8–54).
Measure in inches from the outside edge of the far-left white key to the outside edge of the far-right white key.
in
Measure the total front width of any single white key, left-to-right, at the lip.
mm
From the front edge back to the point where the inner side of the key begins to curve outward.
mm
The flat top length of the white key you can see, measured front-to-back. SonataSkins cover this.
mm
Measure straight down the short front face (do not include the lip). Not enough space? Use a ruler in cm and convert to mm (e.g., 2.0 cm = 20.0 mm).
mm
Visible Key Gap (avg, derived): mm
Angle of elevation (derived): °

Fill the fields to derive the average gap and angle.

C key

The narrow top width of C near the black keys.
mm
Derived Notch Width (C): mm
From the very front edge of the C key to where the notch begins.
mm

C check will turn green when Key Width and Narrow are valid.

D key

The narrow top width of D near the black keys. Notches are equal on both sides.
mm
Derived Notch Widths (D): mm (each)

Formula: (Key Width − D Narrow) ÷ 2 = Notch (each).

F key

The narrow top width of F near the black keys.
mm
Derived Notch Width (F): mm

Formula: (Key Width − F Narrow) = Notch (F).

G key

Measure the longer front notch on G.
mm
The narrow top width of G near the black keys.
mm
Derived Small Notch (G): mm

Formula: Small = Key Width − (Large + Narrow).

FAQs

Disclaimer & Product Information

SonataSkins have been thoroughly tested on pianos and keyboards with plastic keys only. As of yet, we do not recommend use on wood, ivory, or antique piano keys until further testing is completed, as removal without care from these surfaces may risk damage. The consumer accepts full responsibility for any potential damages caused to their instrument through application or removal. SonataSkins are not intended as a toy. While our materials have been safely used for years with no transfer of inks, adhesives, or chemicals under normal or heavy use, users may come into contact with adhesive during application or removal. We recommend washing hands with soap and water afterward to avoid possible skin sensitivity. SonataSkins are single-use only due to stretching when removed. Full realized lifespan may vary based on environment, playing style, and handling.

Installation

  • Pre-cut for each key to ensure proper fit.

  • Apply slowly — most mistakes can be lifted and corrected during installation.
  • Watch for rubbing sounds if a skin edge is not fully pressed down; reapply pressure with a credit card to fix.
  • Installation video coming soon if not currently available.

Fit & Compatibility

  • Standard size designed for most pianos and keyboards.
  • Please measure your keys before ordering for best results.
  • Custom fitments are available — provide your dimensions, and we will do our best to deliver a precise fit.

Playability & Feel

  • Slightly different texture than gloss piano keys; matte finish prevents finger sticking and enhances comfort.
  • No effect on sound quality.
  • Perfect for professional musicians, hobbyists, and all ages.

Removal

  • Adheres firmly with permanent adhesive but can be removed with minimal gray residue.
  • Any residue can be easily cleaned with lemon oil or piano-approved cleaning products.
  • Keys will generally look brand new after removal; after many repeated applications/removals, slight surface wear may occur on plastic keys (similar to natural finger wear over time).
  • Use care when removing. Stretching or ripping skins is nearly unavoidable upon removal.

Safety & Care

  • Safe for all users, including children (not intended for chewing/ingestion).
  • Clean with microfiber cloth and water. Avoid harsh chemicals.
  • Use common sense when storing instruments: SonataSkins can endure high/low temps, but your piano or keyboard may not.

Returns & Warranty

  • Covered against manufacturing defects. Returns accepted if unused, in original packaging, and in original condition.
  • If applied (even partially or away from the backing liner), SonataSkins are non-returnable and non-refundable.
  • Replacement for individual keys available upon request (no guarantee of exact match).
  • Customer is responsible for ensuring rights to any custom artwork submitted.
